Even though I ride with earplugs EVERY time I ride but still find that I get a lot of road/wind noise in my helmet. I’ve tried vents open, vents close and a combo of both, as well as always put the chin spoiler down. It’s not bad for short rides, but I’m a big fan of music and would hate to be killing my hearing slowly. On longer rides my head/ears definitely feel fatigued after.
Sony bought a company back in…96(?) or so, Noise Control Technologies Inc. (market symbol was NCTI). I know this as I made a stock recommendation to a friend with deep pockets and he KILLED it over a 3 day period, thus funding my snowboard season that year in college. Anyways, NCTI’s product was some sort of algorithm that sends out an opposite frequency to cancel out noises – I’m assuming this is either the same technology, or a similar, that is used in the noise cancelling headphones. So, helmet manufacturers, why aren’t you using this technology? Someone needs to take the lead and start pushing out QUALITY products for riders, rather than the same rehashed/branded bullshit that the Alpinestars of the world push out.

It’s a good that you bring up helmet noise. I’ve got a constant ringing in my ears probably caused at least partly to wind noise from riding my motorcycle. I highly recommend ear plugs!

tinnitis – not fun. Seriously though, I think the tech is there for a noise cancelling helmet, it’s just a matter of the mfrs making it a priority to push out quality, safe gear.

My ears are completely shot. At age 30, I was told I had the hearing of a 65 year old man. I don’t wear a helmet, and haven’t been wearing ear plugs. Yeah, I’m a genius.
When I do wear my helmet, I haven’t really noticed noise being much of an issue. Maybe because I am that much more deaf than you guys. I don’t know.
I want a helmet that isn’t 155 degrees inside. I don’t mind wearing one. In fact I like mine. But here in Texas, the summers get a little warm. You can literally watch sweat drip out of your helmet. How about we work on some more effective ventilation as well?
Sorry I high jacked your thread.

Im with RROD on this one, its too hot in TEXAS to justify the helmet, or maybe I am too stupid..either way I save my helmet days for the cold days
